DSC Northeast Co-signs Letter Opposing Connecticut Senate Bill 925

DSC Northeast recently co-signed a letter opposing Connecticut Senate Bill 925. The bill is written as follows.

SB 925 – An Act Prohibiting the Import, Sale and Possession of African Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros and Giraffes.

Please see the attached letter opposing this Senate Bill. DSC Northeast is strongly against this proposed legislation. We are fighting for hunter’s rights and conservation not only locally, but around the world.

Along with co-signed letter, please see the attached response from the Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Commissioner Dykes expressed to the Environmental Committee that there are several concerns with the proposed Bill 925.

Among the points raised by Commissioner Dykes, are that hunters provide funding for habitat protection and provide significant contributions to anti-poaching efforts.

Another topic raised by Commissioner Dykes, is that Federal laws covered by the CITES Act, already oversees the topic of wildlife importation into the United States. The CITES Act uses scientific and trade data to regulate the species listed in Senate Bill 925.

We urge you to reach out to your State House Representative and Senator and remind them that you oppose Senate Bill 925.
