The good things in life don’t come easy and that was certainly the case with River Newcomb and her big Arkansas black bear.
Hard work, dedication, and lots of patience are quite often required in spades on many of his bear hunts down in Oklahoma and Arkansas. His daughter, River Newcomb got to experience this herself on what turned into a multi-year hunt for a big black bear in the mountains of Arkansas.
That part of the country has some outstanding bear hunting, but those are not easy hunts by any stretch of the imagination. Indeed, that particular spot they were hunting had lots of bears, but required a long drive coupled with a long mule ride to access.
While those mules do help the Newcomb family access a lot of country that would be difficult, if not impossible, to access on foot, there are some particular challenges and dangers associated with riding mules, as well. Unfortunately, River got to experience that firsthand.
Watch the video below to learn the whole story and see the obstacles she had to overcome to finally arrow a really nice Arkansas black bear this year!
As you can see, it didn’t come easy, but I’m sure that was a hunt River will remember for the rest of her life.
Not only did she arrow a really nice bear, but she overcame a bunch of obstacles, persevered through some really low points over the course of a multi-year hunt, spent some quality time with her dad, probably learned a lot about herself and grew tremendously as a hunter in the process.
Great work, River!
